Obama’s secret picture that could have cost him the presidency

Back in 2005, journalist Askia Muhammad snapped a photo of Obama smiling alongside Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan during a Congressional Black Caucus meeting. But he was forced to give it up at the time and not mention a word of it in case it damaged Obama’s political future.

Muhammed, who revealed the photo on Thursday, told the Truce Edney News Wire that he ‘basically swore secrecy’ for the photo. At the time, Obama was Illinois Senator and the photo was kept a secret until he secured the Democratic nomination to run for president. Muhammed said it was then kept that way ‘all the way up until the inauguration. Then for eight years after he was president, it was kept under cover. ‘It absolutely would have made a difference.’

He said a CBC employee had called him ‘in a panic’ after he took the photo and immediately realised what was going on. He gave up the picture to Leonard Farrakhan, the minister’s son-in-law and chief of staff, but not before copying the photograph that day onto a computer file. Farrakhan has previously made Anti-Semitic remarks in the past, resulting in Obama having to denounce them in a 2008 presidential debate in Cleveland.
