Stephen Curry Scores 51 Points with 11 3⃣s as Warriors Win

Stephen Curry pulled one from Michael Jordan’s old celebratory playbook and shrugged like no big deal whatsoever.

Nah, not at all. Just another 3-pointer from way downtown.

Curry grinned as he kept lighting up the floor, scoring 51 points and finishing with 11 3-pointers in only three quarters of the Golden State Warriors’ 144-122 victory over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night.

“The last 3 in the first quarter was probably the funniest thing I’ve experienced on the court. Two guys on our team are yelling at the time from the time I was at the free throw line: ‘Don’t pass it! Don’t pass it! You better shoot it!’ All that type of stuff,” Curry said. “That’s going through my head while I’m dribbling down. That’s kind of all the motivation you need just to launch it. Thankfully it went in.”

Coach Steve Kerr couldn’t even be upset when his superstar let it fly from any distance he desired: “You got a guy taking 40-footers and you’re on the sideline going, ‘Yeah, that’s a good shot,'” Kerr said.

Kevin Durant added 30 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, and Draymond Green had 11 of his 12 assists in the first half to help two-time defending champions finish with 37 after dishing out 35 assists in a 20-point victory against Phoenix on Monday.

But this was all Curry’s show. No. 30 knocked down his 11th 3 of the night late in the third from 32 feet back.

“It’s just one of those nights you just have so much fun playing the game,” Curry said. “Taking some dare shots and trying to sustain that for as long as I’m out there on the floor.”

He scored 31 in the first half, finished with his sixth career 50-point game and made 10 or more 3s for the 10th time. The 51 points matched his most at Oracle Arena.

Curry hit his first five 3-pointers then after his fifth one drove to the basket and was fouled. He made two free throws to chants of “MVP! MVP!” The two-time winner of the award had the ninth 30-point half of his career and fourth at home.

“It was a joy to be on the same court with that. That was sick,” Durant said.

The “MVP!” cheers continued. Curry shot 15 for 24, 11 of 16 from 3-point range and made all 10 free throws, missing his career high of 54 set in February 2013 by three points.

LeBron’s a Winner for Lakers in Blowout of Suns

LeBron James won his first game as a member of the Lakers, finishing with 19 points, seven rebounds and 10 assists in a 131-113 victory against the host Phoenix Suns on Wednesday (Thursday, PHL time).

Lance Stephenson had 23 points, eight rebounds and eight assists off the bench, and JaVale McGee led five starters in double figures with 20 points.

Kyle Kuzma scored 17 points and Josh Hart made his first start of the season for Los Angeles and scored 15.

Phoenix guard Devin Booker scored 23 points before leaving with a strained left hamstring late in the third quarter. Deandre Ayton had 22 points and 11 rebounds, and Tyson Chandler had 14 points and 11 rebounds off the bench.

James had 10 points and five assists in the second quarter to help the Lakers outscore the Suns 44-24 and take a 76-54 lead into the half.

Los Angeles took its first double-digit lead on a basket by Stephenson with 9:30 left in the first half, and Hart's steal and layup made it 63-43 with 3:51 remaining.

James drove to the basket in the final seconds, grabbed his own rebound off the glass and put it in with 2.4 seconds left on the clock, giving Los Angeles its biggest lead heading into the break.

Phoenix could only get as close as 17 points in the third quarter before the Lakers took a 106-86 lead into the fourth, when James sat out.

Los Angeles finished with 34 assists and eight turnovers while shooting 52 percent from thefloor.

La Lakers Coach Walton Fined $15,000 for Criticizing Officials

Los Angeles Lakers coach Luke Walton has been fined $15,000 for public criticism of the officiating.

NBA executive vice president of basketball operations Kiki VanDeWeghe announced the fine on Wednesday.

It stems from comments Walton made following the Lakers’ 143-142 overtime loss to the Spurs on Monday. The officials gave 38 free throws to San Antonio and just 26 to Los Angeles, even though the Lakers outscored the Spurs 74-50 in the paint.

Walton said the officials didn’t give the Lakers calls because they’re a young team.

He had gotten a technical foul in the second quarter of the game for protesting a no-call on contact with LeBron James.

Greek Super star Antetokounmpo’s Triple-Double Leads Bucks Past 76ers-

After a cold start, Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks offense again roared to life, including a near-record output in the second quarter.

Before celebrating the scoring outburst, coach Mike Budenholzer wanted to talk about his team’s second-half defense after a 123-108 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night.

After surrendering 64 first-half points, Milwaukee’s defense buckled down in the second half, holding the 76ers to 44 points, including 17 in the third quarter.

“We’ve got to have our defense there no matter what we are doing on the other end,” Budenholzer said. “When you do that, you can keep a lead and maybe build a lead.”

Eric Bledsoe said the turnaround stemmed from paying greater attention to the defensive game plan.

“I thought we did a poor job in the first half,” Bledsoe said. “We locked in during the second half.”

Antetokounmpo had 32 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the Bucks, who improved to 4-0 for the first time since the 2001-02 season.
Antetokounmpo downplayed his performance.

“I feel like I can be way better and help my teammates find open shots even more and I’m going to keep trying to get better,” he said.

Khris Middleton had 25 points, and Brook Lopez chipped in 21.

Joel Embiid scored 30 points for Philadelphia, which was coming off a wild 133-132 overtime loss Tuesday at Detroit. JJ Redick added 19 points for the 76ers, who fell to 2-3.

The Bucks overcame early ice-cold shooting before gradually taking control.
Lopez misfired on his first four 3-point attempts but then sank five straight to spark a second-quarter rally.

“We all came out and struggled a little bit shooting it, but we have to stick with it,” Lopez said.

Antetokounmpo had a message for Lopez after the early misses.

“Keep shooting. That’s what I told him, personally,” Antetokounmpo said. “I heard everybody tell him to keep shooting. We don’t want Embiid staying in the paint all night. He’s not going to give us driving lanes. He made some shots and the paint opened up.”
